PM SHRI Schools
PM SHRI (Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India) is a centrally-sponsored scheme by the Government of India to improve existing schools and establish new ones:
Goal: The scheme aims to create over 14,500 schools that showcase the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Focus: The scheme focuses on creating schools that are inclusive, equitable, and joyful, and that cater to the diverse needs of students.
Duration: The scheme is proposed to run from 2022-23 to 2026-27.
Benefits: The scheme is expected to benefit more than 20 lakh students.
Cost: The total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 27,360 crore.
Role of states: After the scheme ends, the states and union territories will be responsible for maintaining the benchmarks set by the schools.
PM SHRI schools are expected to:
- Provide a safe and stimulating learning environment
- Offer a wide range of learning experiences
- Provide appropriate resources for learning
- Mentor other schools in the region
